It has been known for years that work, even hard work, does not necessarily extricate people from the cycle of poverty; a new study, based on data from Israel’s National Insurance Institute, reveals that this phenomenon is even more widespread: in the last 15 years there has been a fivefold leap in the number of families who work – but remain poor.
