Evening discussion (in Hebrew) on the occasion of the publication of the book by
Abigail Jacobson and Moshe Naor
Oriental Neighbors deals with the complex, sometimes conflicting, relations between the Middle Eastern Jews and their Arab neighbors in Mandatory Palestine. It explores the meaning of the complex Jewish-Arab identity and analyzes the unique roles of Middle Eastern Jews as mediators between Jews and Arabs, on the political, social, cultural, and security levels. By connecting Mandatory Eretz Israel/Palestine and its inhabitants to the Middle Eastern sphere surrounding them, the book examines areas of Jewish-Arab cooperation alongside relations of conflict and hostility and it considers the Sephardic-Middle Eastern community’s relations with the Arabs, on the one hand, and with the Zionist movement, on the other (Abigail Jacobson, Moshe Naor, Brandeis University Press, 2016).
