A Discussion |
Alon Confino, who died in June of this year, was one of the most important historians of our time. He wrote on a variety of topics, all of which are at the center of our existence and identity: the creation of modern German nationalism, the Holocaust and its memory, Zionism, the 1948 war, Jewish-Palestinian relations, and more. In all of his writings he employed a critical historical approach characterized by deep human empathy. The main question that occupied him in his work was the role of imagination, memory, and human sensitivities in history and in historiography. In an evening in his memory, we will consider several of the painful junctures in Jewish history that occupied Confino over the years.
