Fifth Discussion |
Dr. Aviv Deri and Prof. Zvi Ben Dor-Benite |
This session will focus on the issues of capital and class in modern imperial spaces: the ramifications of global capitalism for these spaces in general and for Jews in particular, the integration of wealthy Jews in global commercial networks, and the ramifications of Jews’ economic activity on their status within the empire. In the discussion we will also consider in-depth relations between Jews and the imperial centers in which they lived and between them and other groups in these imperial spaces, as well as the place of poor Jews in the context of social struggles within the empires.
