Dr. Shaul Setter
Editor of "Theory and Criticism"
Shaul is a scholar and lecturer in literature, art and theory, and head of the Master's Program in Policy and Theory of the Arts (M.A.) at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. He focuses on the relation between aesthetics and politics in literature and art of the 20th and 21st centuries; political theory; and critical theory. His doctoral dissertation, which he wrote in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, is on neo-Modernist projects that went back and forth between Europe and Israel/Palestine. His book on Jean-Luc Godard, Jean Genet, and the Palestinian struggle in the 1970s is in press (Lexington). For several years Shaul has been the art critic of the daily Ha’aretz, and since 2019 he has been the editor of Theory and Criticism at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute.
