Dr. Tal Kohavi

Dr. Kohavi studied philosophy and anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her doctoral dissertation, Between Dance and Anthropology, received a grade of excellent and the Bahat Prize for the best original work of nonfiction. The research included field work with the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, and the dissertation is at a multidisciplinary theoretical intersection that includes observation and philosophical, artistic, cultural, and anthropological thought. For 15 years she taught university courses in anthropological thought and research, the study of the body, and the relations between identity and performance. Prior to that she headed the Jerusalem Spinoza Institute. For many years Dr. Kohavi has been involved in research at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute. For ten years she headed research groups with Prof. Shmuel Noah Eisenstadt and then directed the Anthropology Now research group. Since January 2011 she has been the director and editor-in-chief of the Van Leer Institute Press.
