Gender Index
The Gender Index is a powerful tool that since 2004 has been used to measure changes in the status of women and men in Israel. The index offers a detailed picture of the state of inequality in various aspects of life—work, higher education, poverty, political and economic power, culture and communications, violence, division of time, health, center–periphery relations, and Arab society—and each year new areas are added. The examination of gender inequality is conducted not only on the basis of the binary distinction between men and women but also on the basis of the intersection of gender and social location, such as the periphery, Arab society, and ultra-Orthodox society in Israel. The data supplied by the index enables it to serve as a compass for decision makers and public and government bodies in Israel.
