Since 1989 the unemployment rate in the Arab sector has risen faster than that in the Jewish sector. Unemployment among the Arabs of Israel is characteristic of economic laws, and in a recession it is more widespread in the Arab sector than in Israel's other population sectors. One of the main reasons is that Arab workers are concentrated in occupations that tend to have a high unemployment rate. The study compares the Arab labor force in Israel to the Jewish labor force and examines the various influences on unemployment, such as the rise and fall of the economy, the preparedness of employees, mobility rates, income supplements, and the transition from employment to unemployment.
