This is a charming short story for children about a tyrannical king and children who disobey him, by the renowned Syrian writer Zakaria Tamer. Born in Damascus in 1931, Tamer is known as one of the leading Syrian writers, and he is among the most important writers in Arabic of short stories and children’s literature. Alon Fragman translated the story, the illustrations are by the artist and illustrator Roni Fahima, and the epilogue is by Shoham Smith. This is the first Syrian children’s story to be published in a Hebrew-Arabic bilingual edition. The Children Laugh is the first piece of children’s literature in the Maktoob series, which is dedicated to the translation of Arabic literature into Hebrew.
